So tonight I was just thinking about something. I love random encounters with strangers. Most of the time, unless it’s a really cute girl, I don’t even care if I actually get to know the person or not. Whether it’s just a “hi” and a wave, or a short bit of conversation, or even just eye contact and maybe a smile; it seems to me like those little encounters matter more than it would seem. Sure, friends are nice and everything, but you already know a lot about them. It’s always fun seeing new faces and learning new things about new people.
And most of the time, it’s kinda reassuring too. It makes me realizes that everyone’s human, and that most people aren’t half-bad.
I was just thinking about all the people I’ve ever talked to, or even just made eye contact with. The people that I’ll probably never see again, but somehow it’s those people that matter a lot.
I’ll bet that in my whole life, I’ve had contact with at least 5,000 people. It’s hard to put a number on it, but I know it’s a lot. And I can’t remember most of them, but that doesn’t matter, because I know that they’re probably still friendly people now and that for even just a split second, they were in my life.
I’ve also realized that in some other people’s faces, I see a little bit of myself. Or even just in what other people do or how they act. I don’t really believe in any religion, but it’s stuff like that that makes it feel like we’re all part of a universal spirit, so to speak. The spirit of humanity.
